Star Trek: Alien Domain Second closed beta announced.
Star wars games have made a huge impact over the years, star trek hasn't done as well. They have had a few good games even though it has a much bigger following then it's sci fi counterpart. It seems that for a long time just slapping star trek on a sub par game was enough to sell it. But lately that has been changing with the star trek online allowing players to take part as them selves in a fandom that they love.
So gamesamba has taken the successful mechanics of Star trek online and applied it to their new game. Changing from the third person RPG to a strategy game. Star trek: Alien domination set many years after the events of voyager.
Star trek: Alien Domain gets the player to take the role of either a federation or klingon captain as they become trapped in unexplored region of fluidic space. Following the game's first closed beta test, which ran from December 1-12, Closed Beta 2 will begin later this month on January 15 at 6:00p.m. PST.
The officer system has been improved from the feed back of the firts closed beta. After reaching certain points in the story, the player can recruit new officers and NPCs. These characters have different roles that Star trek fans will recognise immediatly.
Each NPC has his or her own unique set of skills that will help players in exploration or battle, and by leveling these officers, their bonus effects can be improved. In addition, the official Star Trek: Alien Domain website will feature short biographical information on each of the NPC officers. GameSamba is currently hosting a community event on the official ST:AD forum where fans of the game can compete for their chance to name and create a personal backstory for some of these characters.
